Certification Requirements

Teacher Licensure Needed:  Yes

Master’s Degree Needed: No

Praxis II Library Media Content Test Needed: No, neither Praxis I or II required

Other Testing Needed: No

Description: Connecticut requires a Masters or licensure in school library media as an add-on licensure.  Currently an innovative program, the Area Cooperative Educational Services (ARCLMS- for School Library Media Specialists, is offered.Teachers who successfully complete the program will receive a Certificate of Completion and a cross-endorsement in Library Media Specialist K-12. This credential deems the teacher eligible for certification and employment as a Library Media Specialist in any Connecticut public school.

Evaluation Process for Licensure

Criteria for eligibility include completion of the following requirements:

  • master’s or licensure in school library media as an add-on licensure.

Reciprocity: Connecticut participates with several states in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC), however Connecticut does not have reciprocity with any other state.
